대한민국 정부가 출연한 기금을 바탕으로 1981년 설립 이후 지금까지 북미지역의 우수한 동포대학(원)생과 한국유학생에게 장학금을 수여함으로써 면학에 전념하고 있는 우수한 학생들에게 새로운 희망을 주고 재미동포사회와 조국발전에 기여할 지도자로 성장해갈 수 있도록 돕고 있음.

지원 자격



  • 1) 미국 또는 캐나다 소재 대학의 한국계 대학(원)생 [부조중 한분 또는 두분 모두 한국계인 동포학생, 유학생, 미국ㆍ캐나다에 입양된 동포학생]

  • 2) 지원일 기준 정규 4년제 대학 및 대학원에서 full-time으로학위과정을 이수중인 한국계학생으로서 직전 1년(2010 가을학기와 2011 봄학기)의 대학(원) 학업성적 우수자(GPA 4.0 기준 3.5(예능계 3.0) 이상)
    ※ 시민권이나 영주권을 소지하지 않은 한국 유학생의 경우 F1비자 ( 그 외 A, G 등 적법한 비자 포함) 소지 시 지원 가능

  • 3) 재미한인장학기금 장학금 수혜는 1회에 한함(기 수혜자는 지원불가)

2016년도 장학생 모집 요강

 

1. 선발 주요 일정

. 지원서 접수  :  4  4()~ 6 18(토)  마감일자 우편소인 유효

. 지역공관심사 :  6 22()~ 6 24()                     

. 중 앙 심 사  :  7  5()~ 7 8()

 . 장학금 지급  :  9 12()~ 9 19()  실제 수령일은 개인별로 차이

 

2. 장학금액

 : 최우수 장학생 1 3,000, 나머지 1인당 1,000 (1년간)

                           * 장학생  우수 에세이상 수상자 2명은 각각 500 상금 별도 지급

 분야별 배정인원은 지원자   재원규모에 따라 조정될  있음

 동포학생은 미국 시민권 또는 영주권 소지자를 의미함

 한국 유학생은 F1 또는 A, G 비자  학위과정 이수가 가능한 비자 소지자를 의미함

 

4. 지원자격  제출서류

 

. 지원 자격

   지원일 기준 정규 4년제 대학  대학원에서 full-time으로 학위과정을 이수중인 한국계 학생중 직전 1(2015 가을학기와 2016 봄학기) 대학() 성적(GPA) 제출이 가능한 사람으로서 아래 조건 충족자(조건 미충족자는 심사제외)                             

 - 직전 1년간 GPA 3.5(예능계는 3.0)이상 (, GPA 4.0 기준)

 - 이전에 재미한인 장학기금 장학금 수혜사실이 없는 ( 장학금 수혜는 1회로 제한되고,  수혜자는 지원불가하며 지원하는 경우에도 심사제외)

       한국계 입양아 중 상기 조건을 충족하는 학생도 지원 가능

             대사관 홈페이지(http://usa.mofa.go.kr)에서 지원서를 내려 받아 사용

 성적증명서 1(직전 1년성적, 대학 발행 원본이어야 )

   성적(GPA) 지원서 제출 당시 직전 1년간의 성적표를 제출하되, 4.0 기준으로 환산된(graded credits, not Pass or Fail) 성적을 제출하여야 하며,

GPA 만점이 4.0 아닌 경우 지원자가 4.0 기준으로 환산하여 작성한 성적을 같이 제출하여야 

        성적(GPA) 경우 Pass or Fail 인정하지 않음

 추천서(소속학교 교수) 1 - (가급적 대학 Seal 있는 용지 사용 권장)

 Essay 1 (600단어 이내: 영문 12 point, double space)

             에세이는 영문으로 본인 자신이 다음   1 하여 작성함

                                                            - What challenges have you faced as a Korean-American? How have you used those experiences

to better yourself and contribute to your community?

        - How has growing up as a Korean-American (Korean heritage/ancestry) shaped your identity, personal goals, and values?

 

                    Résumé 1 (입상실적, 특별활동, 봉사활동, leadership  포함)

             대학원생의 경우 Research Publications, Presentations 등의 Information 기재

             증빙서류가 있을 경우 첨부

 

    ⑥ 예능계 장학생 지원자만 제출: 미술 부문 지원자는 본인 작품(Work Image에 작품   

       Size, Medium, 작업년도 기입) 10매를 저장한 CD 1, 음악 부문 지원자는 본인의   

       연주모습(20분 분량)을 저장한 DVD( Video 혹은 녹음테이프는 안됨) 1매를        

       반드시 다음 3가지 포맷 중의 하나를 선택  저장하여 제출

                 - Windows Media Player, QuickTime Player, GOM Player

                    장애자 학생만 제출: 장애자임을 입증할만한 증빙서류(자동차 운전면허증 사본,      

                장애자 단체 추천서, 기타 심사위원이 인정할 서류 등)

                    한국어능력 가산점 (5점 범위 내) 대상자(해당자만 제출)

                "대한민국 이외의 국가에서 중학교  고등학교를 졸업한 동포학생 한하며, 다음    

                 서류  하나를 제출

             미국  외국 소재 고둥학교에서 한국어과정 수강 학생의 경우 성적증명서 1 (B+ 이상)

             SAT II 한국어 시험에 응시하여 받은 성적표 사본 (700 이상)

                                 한국교육과정평가원의 한국어능력시험(TOPIK) 응시하여 받은 한국어능력인증서      

                     (5등급 또는 6등급)

 

 

The Korean Honor Scholarship
The Korean Honor Scholarship Committee extends an invitation to Korean and Korean-American undergraduate and graduate students to compete for the 2016 Korean Honor Scholarship.
This Scholarship was first established in 1981 with a gift of US $1 million dollars donated by the government of the Republic of Korea to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the opening of diplomatic relations between Korea and the United States. Over the next several years, an additional US$1.75 million was added to the fund by the Korean Government and now the fund totals $2.90 million. This scholarship is awarded to outstanding students of Korean heritage to encourage high achievement of academic performance and the development of leadership qualities for their future professional careers.
The Korean Honor Scholarship Committee has awarded 3,003 scholarships to outstanding Korean and Korean-American students over the past 35 years. To be eligible for consideration, applicants must be attending college or university in the United States and must have an overall grade point average of 3.5 or higher. In addition to academic achievement, the Scholarship Committee also considers an essay, a letter of recommendation, awards, honors, performances and extracurricular activities when making selections. Approximately 35 scholarships will be awarded this year.

2. Important Dates for Year 2016 Contest
○ Application period: April 4, 2016 ~ June 18, 2016
○ First round evaluation at regional consular offices: June 22, 2016 ~ June 24, 2016
○ Final round evaluation by Central Selection Committee: July 5, 2016 ~ July 8, 2016
○ Scholarship Award presentation: September 12, 2016 ~ September 19, 2016


3. Amount of Scholarship: Highest Honor Scholarship - $ 3,000 (1 student)
Honor Scholarship - $1,000 (35 students or so)
Best Essay Award - $ 500 in addition to Honor Scholarship
(2 students)

 

4. Qualifications
(1) At the time of application, an applicant must be a full time 4-year college or graduate student who has achieved a grade point average of 3.5 or higher(For music and art students, the GPA must be 3.0 or higher) at least for the previous one academic year(Fall, 2015 ~ Spring, 2016)
※ The GPA should be on a 4.0 basis (Pass or Fail is not acceptable).
(2) Any students whose parents are Korean (either one or both) or any legally adopted Korean-American students are welcome to apply.
(3) Scholarship will not be awarded more than once per each student. Please do not apply if you were already awarded the scholarship before.


6. Required Documents
(1) Application form: available at http://usa.mofa.go.kr
(2) Official school transcript, including the 2015-2016 academic year
※ If the transcript GPA is not on a 4.0 basis or if letter grades are given, the applicant
must convert the grades into those of a 4.0 basis. Submit both the converted grades record and the official original school transcript.
(3) A letter of recommendation from a professor at the applicant's institution
(4) An Essay written in English by the applicant: up to 600 words (point 12, double spaced)
※ Applicants must write under the following title (choose one) :
- What challenges have you faced as a Korean-American? How have you used those experiences to better yourself and contribute to your community?
- How has growing up as a Korean-American (Korean heritage/ancestry) shaped your identity, personal goals, and values?
(5) Résumé (including records of awards, extracurricular and volunteer activities, leadership,
etc.)
※ Graduate students should list research publications and presentations in their résumé.
(6) Applicants of music or art field only: either one of the followings
※ Art student must submit a CD that 10 pieces of his/her original works are recorded in
(The size and medium of works and the year when works were created must be specified in each work image).
※ Music student must submit a DVD that a 20-minute long his/her own performance is recorded in. (Video or cassette tape will NOT be accepted.)
※ Both CD and DVD must be submitted by one of the following recording types:
Windows Media Player, QuickTime Player, and GOM Player.
(7) Handicapped students only: Documents to prove disability (such as copy of applicant's
driver's license, recommendation letter by related organization, other supporting documents)
(8) Only for Korean-American students who did not graduate middle and/or high school in Korea: either one of the followings (if applicable)
※ School transcript for the Korean language course(s) taken at a high school in the U.S.A. and foreign countries except Korea (B+ or higher)
※ SAT II Korean test score (700 point or higher)
※ "Certificate of Proficiency in Korean (Grade 5 or 6)", available by taking TOPIK (Test of
Proficiency in Korean) administered by Korea Institute of Curriculum & Evaluation
(http://www.topik.go.kr).


7. Selection Process
□ Scholarship for regular students (AC, AG, KC, KG) and handicapped students (HS)
○ Submit applications to the regional consular office near your college or university.
※ Applicants from the Washington D.C. area (DC, MD, VA, WV) must submit the
applications directly to the Office of Education Minister Counselor at the Embassy of
Korea, Washington, D.C.
→ First round evaluation at regional consular offices
→ Final evaluation at Central Selection Committee
→ Approval by the Korean Honor Scholarship (KHS) Committee Chairman
→ Finalized
□ Scholarships for students in music and arts
○ Submit applications directly to the Office of Education Minister Counselor at the
Embassy of the Republic of Korea, Washington, D.C.
→ Evaluation at Central Selection Committee → Approval by the Korean Honor Scholarship Committee Chairman → Finalized
□ Highest Honor Scholarship and Best Essay Award
○ Central Selection Committee recommends the candidates among the applicants.
→ Approval by the Korean Honor Scholarship Committee Chairman → Finalized
8. Other Information
○ Applications will NOT be returned.
○ Unqualified applicants will NOT be reviewed and the evaluation process is confidential.
○ Applications must be submitted to the regional consular office CLOSEST TO YOUR
HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION
