The National Institute for International Education (NIIED) invites applications for the 2026 Global Korea Scholarship for Graduate Degrees (GKS-G).
Details regarding the selection process for applicants in the United States are provided below. We encourage interested candidates to apply.
1. Purpose
- To foster global human resources by inviting outstanding international students to Korea and supporting their degree attainment
- To promote the internationalization of Korean universities by expanding the recruitment of international scholarship students
2. Number of Awardees
- Total: 16 students
(General Track: 16, Overseas Koreans & Adoptees: 0)
3. Programs Offered
- Master’s Degree Program: 3 years
(1 year of Korean language training + 2 years of degree program) - Doctoral Degree Program: 4 years
(1 year of Korean language training + 3 years of degree program) - Research Program: 1 year
(6 months or 1 year)
4. Eligibility
- Nationality
Applicants must be citizens of the invited country.
Both the applicant and their parents (or legal guardians) must hold foreign nationality.
Applicants or parents who hold dual nationality including Korean nationality are not eligible. - Age
Under 40 years old (born on or after September 1, 1986)
Under 45 years old (born on or after September 1, 1981) for current faculty members from ODA recipient countries* - Educational Background
Applicants must meet the degree requirements for each program at the time of application or be expected to obtain the required degree by July 31, 2026.- Doctoral Program: Master’s degree or higher
- Master’s Program: Bachelor’s degree or higher
- Research Program: Postdoctoral researchers, exchange professors, or professionals
- Academic Performance
Applicants must meet one of the following criteria for cumulative GPA from all previous academic years:- At least 80% on a 100-point scale or within the top 20% of their class
- Minimum GPA:
- 2.64 / 4.0
- 2.80 / 4.3
- 2.91 / 4.5
- 3.23 / 5.0
- Previous Scholarship Recipients
Former GKS recipients are not eligible to reapply.

6. Required Documents
- Common Documents
Application form, personal statement, study plan, research proposal (for research program applicants), one letter of recommendation, applicant’s agreement, self-health assessment, consent for collection and use of personal information, degree certificates and academic transcripts, proof of nationality (applicant and parents), and family relationship documents - Additional Documents (if applicable)
Proof of overseas Korean or adoptee status, proof of renunciation or loss of Korean nationality (applicant and parents), proof of Korean War veteran status and family relationship, certificate of employment or career (for faculty at partner institutions or international organizations), valid TOPIK certificate or official English test scores, published books, academic papers, awards, etc.

국립국제교육원에서 주관하는 2026년도 한국 정부초청 외국인 대학원 장학생 추천과 관련하여 미국 지역의 선발 관련 사항을 아래와 같이 알려드리오니, 관심있는 분들의 많은 지원을 바랍니다.
1. 목적
o 세계 우수 인재를 한국으로 초청하여 학위 취득을 지원함으로써 글로벌 인적 자원을 확보하고, 외국인 장학생 유치 확대를 통한 대학의 국제 교육 활성화 지원
2. 모집 인원
o 총 16명 (일반 16명, 재외동포 및 입양인 0명 )
3. 모집 과정
o (석사과정) 총 3년 (한국어연수 1년 + 학위과정 2년)
o (박사과정) 총 4년 (한국어연수 1년 + 학위과정 3년)
o (연구과정) 총 1년 (6개월 또는 1년)
4. 지원 자격
o (국적) 지원자는 초청국 국적 소유자, 지원자와 부모(또는 법적 보호자)는 외국 국적 보유자이어야하며, 지원자 또는 부모가 한국 국적을 가진 복수국적자이면 지원 불가.
o (연령) 40세 미만(1986.9.1. 이후 출생자) , ODA 수원국* 국적 현직교수는 45세 미만(1981.9.1 이후 출생)
o (학력)지원시 과정별 학위 조건을 충족한 자 또는 2026.7.31 기준 학위 취득 예정인 자
박사과정(석사학위 이상), 석사과정(학사학위 이상),연구과정(박사 후 과정, 교환교수,전문가)
* 2025-26 학년도 학위취득예정자도 지원 가능, 단 2026.7.31.까지 졸업증명서 등 제출 필요
o (성적) 직전과정 모든 학년 종합 성적이 다음 조건 중 하나를 충족하는자
– 백분율 환산 점수 80% 이상 또는 석차 상휘 20% 이내
– CGPA 2.64/4.0, 2.80/4.3, 2.91/4.5, 3.23/5.0 이상인 자
*CGPA: Cumulative Grade Point Average, 종합평균평점
o 기수혜 장학생 재지원 불가
5. 장학금 내역
o 입/출국 항공료, 등록금, 어학연수비, 학업장려금
6. 제출 서류
o (공통) 지원서, 자기소개서, 학업계획서, 연구계획서(연구과정 지원자) ,추천서(1부), 지원자 동의서, 자가건강진단서, 개인정보 수집/이용 동의서 , 학위증명서 및 성적증명서, 국적 증빙서류(지원자 및 부모) 및 가족관계 증명서류
* 해당자만 제출 : 재외동포 또는 입양 증명서류, 한국국적 이탈 또는 상실 증명서류(지원자 및 부모), 한국전 참전 증명서류 및 가족관계 증명서류, 재직증명서 또는 경력증명서(국제기구 협력대학 교직원등) ,유효한 TOPIK 인증서 원본 또는 공인영어 성적표, 출간된 서적, 논문, 수상내역 등
