On July 19, 2023, a momentous meeting took place, marking a significant step forward for Korean language learners in California. The staff of the California Department of Education convened once again to discuss and strategize ways to enhance the accessibility of the prestigious Seal of Biliteracy for Korean language learners.
What made this meeting truly special was the presence of distinguished guests! President Hye Sook Ryu and the TOPIK Director from NIIED (National Institute for International Education) graced the occasion.
A groundbreaking proposal was discussed during the meeting, aiming to include the Test of Proficiency in Korean (TOPIK) as one of the criteria for earning the coveted Seal of Biliteracy.
Following the fruitful discussions, they visited to the Korean School of Sacramento, a testing center for TOPIK in the region. This visit not only emphasized the support and recognition for Korean language education but also served as a source of inspiration for aspiring learners.
